What Can I Do?

Here are 6 ways you can make a difference to the lives of refugees (and people seeking asylum)

1. Welcome refugees to our community

Join local groups supporting refugees and people seeking asylum.

  • GARAS - Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers

  • CWR - Cheltenham Welcomes Refugees

Sign up to newsletters, follow social accounts and volunteer - CWR / GARAS

2. Financial support - Donate money

How your money will help:

GARAS

£10 - could pay for 30 minutes legal advice for a vulnerable client

£30 - could buy ingredients for clients to have a meal together sharing from their cultural heritage

£120 - could pay an interpreter for clients' psychotherapy sessions to help heal the wounds of trauma

Donate to GARAS online with give.net or CAF Donate

3. Donations of Goods:

Advice from GARAS and other refugee agencies:

Donations should be based on agency and client requests to avoid inappropriate goods and stockpiling especially where there is limited storage space.

Food and Household supplies

• Clothing and Toys - GARAS asks that clothing and toys are donated to local charity shops where clients are directed to buy what they need.

4. Campaign for refugees’ rights

Supporting campaigns is a great way to stand up for refugees and people in the asylum system.

5. Amplify refugees’ voices

Refugees are rarely out of the headlines. But what do they think about their experiences? Find out by reading a real-life refugee story in the Refugee Voices gallery. Once you’ve read it, help it reach more people by sharing it.
