Community Activities
The Hub
The Hub is for people seeking asylum in Cheltenham to come on a weekly basis to meet together with CWR volunteers for fun and friendship. The Hub is supported by the Everyman Cheltenham to have drama activities and games as part of the sessions. There are talks from other community groups to introduce those new to Cheltenham to some of the services and activities on offer. We have a bike workshop for mending bikes, there are sometimes activities like hairdressing, and lots of tea and cakes, talking and laughing.
From the Hub, other activities have sprung such as a football group and a photography group.
Welcome cafe
Every month, CWR holds an evening cafe with the support of C3 Pavilion. It is for refugee and asylum seeking families to meet together with volunteers, to share food, conversation and games. With support from the Everyman Cheltenham, we also put on children’s crafts activities, and there are plenty of games and fun for the children while the adults get to relax and chat! Every month is a hugely rewarding and heart-warming time.
Summer picnic
Most years (Covid-excluded) we have held a community Summer Picnic for all our volunteers, supporters, and friends from the refugee community. This is supported by the University of Gloucestershire. There is food to share, lots of games, circus acts, face painting, singing, dancing and celebration, so it is a highlight of the year!
