Our Aims
To foster compassion and cooperation between different communities in Cheltenham, helping local people understand the global refugee crisis and what people experience on their resettlement journey.
To work with GARAS (Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers), local authorities, and other partners including organisations and businesses, to help refugee communities truly grow and flourish.
To achieve these aims, CWR relies entirely on volunteers. Some volunteers take on organisational or strategic tasks with the Management Committee – our ‘Core Group’ – or work within different sub-groups.
We really appreciate volunteer help with tasks including:
Developing community-building events to support resettled people and help them meet Cheltenham residents.
Preparing food and coordinating activities at our monthly Community Cafés and other social events.
Distributing publicity material and posters.Sharing news and information pieces for our monthly newsletter.
Keeping our social media pages and educational materials up to date.Giving refugees lifts to events or appointments.
Giving presentations to school assemblies, and facilitating educational workshops.
Helping refugees improve their conversational English and other help with translation and interpretation.
In representing CWR, all our volunteers need to support our aims and principles, participate in training where needed, and adhere to our policies on confidentiality and safeguarding.
